More angels and goddesses......

I named this goddess painting "CONNECTED" (acrylic on canvas).  Lots of blue and purple tones here opening up the throat and crown chakras which enable us to SPEAK OUR TRUTH, EXPRESS OURSELVES AUTHENTICALLY and CONNECT TO OUR HIGHER POWER or SOURCE ENERGY.  The universal hand mudra for prayer or NAMASTE represents our connection to ALL BEINGS & THE UNIVERSE and reminds us that WE ARE ALL ONE.

This goddess painting I have named "ALIVE" (acrylic on canvas)  For me she represents a RISING ABOVE circumstances, challenges or obstacles.  She is so free and open, she looks as if she is about to take flight.  The painting process I used created colors and textures that look almost like wings.

And here is "LIFE FORCE" (acrylic on canvas)  A very loving and energetic angel representing our own energy and life force that drives us and fuels our passions, creations and desires.

Angels and Goddesses

I have found my work representing our "Re-connection" to the divine feminine energy in powerful archetypal images of angels and goddesses.  I wanted to share a few with you here.........

This angel is painted on a small wooden panel and is a representation of the WATER element in ancient chinese medicine.

And here is fire.  These peices are still in progress.

This angel above is connected to the EARTH element and you can see her roots reaching into the earth.

Here are some ancient archtype angel paintings...............

Goddess Bast is coming along...........

I was very inspired the other night and really added to this painting......I like how her hair has more energy now.  My intention is to really "finish" her face with some dramatic shadows and coloring, also I feel I need to fix her nose and mouth.......more to come soon!

The Goddess 'BAST"

I was listening to a guided meditation from my friend Sheri Ann Ponzi of Painting Herself into Being yesterday and it was all about re-connecting to the Divine Feminine energy as a source for inspiration, strength and creativity.  It was a powerful meditation and the strong message I received was, "YOU ARE LOVED!"  The Goddess Bast also "popped" into my head, so I looked her up.

She is the goddess of PROTECTION & PLEASURE. Her father was the sun god, RA and she protected him from his enemies.  She is associated with cats, fertility, protection, sensuality and more.  You can read more about Bast by CLICKING HERE.

I found it really cool that I was drawn to such a brave, strong and loving goddess, so OF COURSE I was compelled to paint her!  And here is what has emerged so far............

I'm looking forward to completing her............I will update you soon!  Enjoy your Wednesday!!!

Latest Angel painting completed......

I was inspired by a photo of my Beautiful friend Beth to create this piece.  It is a combination of collage, modeling paste, acrylic and watercolors and it was a lot of fun to work on!  I'm calling it "ANGEL OF ROMANCE"

"ANGEL OF ROMANCE" 10"X10"
(collage, impasto, acrylic & watercolor on canvas)

Below is a bit of a photograhic recording of the "journey"

What do me and Van Gogh have in Common.......

Yes, you read correctly.......  I was going through some of my older work recently and I found this Intaglio print from college..............

I've always been intrigued by Van Gogh so I was doing some research on him yesterday and came across this print he made, one of his few prints..............

I just found the similarities to be really cool, especially since I'm kind of out of my mind too!  Ha ha!

So, there you have it!

About a cat......

In preparation for the show at the Brotherhood winery, I thought it would be fun to have some paintings with wine in it.  I had began this particular painting because I also love cats so I thought, "Cats and wine, what a great combination!" and I wanted a calico cat as well.  But for some reason I never fell in love with it no matter how many times I worked on it.

Here's a picture........

So now I have "bagged" the whole idea and I am "re-using" the canvas for a new painting.  I really would rather paint a black cat and I am taking the wine out for now, at least that's the plan.  So now, as you can see, I painted over most of it but there is still some nice "under painting" from the original which is nice.  (Between you and me, this is actually my THIRD time painting over this canvas as it is an old piece from my college days and was originally a still life with, you guessed it, a cat sculpture in it!)

I will certainly keep you updated on the progress!

Larger work

I can't believe I haven't posted these paintings yet!  These are my largest works for sale right now at 22" X 28"  The first is "MARITIME ANGEL" (acrylic on canvas)

And a more graphic and "darker" piece called "CHEST X-RAY" (acrylic & collage on canvas)

This was created using actual x-ray films from my brother's CT scan when he was diagnosed with a rare lung disease as a result of complications from a bone marrow transplant.  Here are some details......

Here you can see his heart.......

Here you can see the cross he was wearing around his neck.......

Here is a video showing you my paintng process......

"BLUE ANGEL"

This is an oil pastel painting I sketched in the car when we were driving from North Carolina to Virginia during our summer vacation last August.  I really LOVE the way she came out!

Here are some nudes I have in progress......

I currently have 2 "Nude Paintings"  That I am working on.  They are not quite finished yet.  This one I used an Impasto technique to treat the canvas with modeling paste and some scraps of lace embroidery.  The paste takes a really long time to dry (24 hours) but after applying some thin coats of transparent glazes, I really enjoyed the effect!

This one was originally a canvas that was prepped with some colorful, thick acrylic paint that was sprayed with a thinning agent to create a "drippy" effect......

I'm looking forward to finishing these paintings!

I need to be blogging more regularly....

I have to discipline myself to make time to blog here.  I would like to become a member of a group of painters called Dailypainters.com and one of the requirements is to blog daily about your work for 6 months.  I am usually more current on facebook, in fact, you can like my new art page there to further support me.

So if you are not my friend on facebook and you would like to know what I have been up to let me show you..........

This is my latest Hawk Painting.....I am IN LOVE with him!!!!  I have named this paintings "SPIRIT HAWK"  because it contains many symbols and powerful imagery.  This painting is currently for sale and is being displayed at The Brotherhood Winery in Washingtonville until October 31, 2012.

I currently have 3 paintings displayed in this exhibit with the River Valley Artists Guild.  Here is a peak at 2 of them hanging up................

I'm very pleased at how they "POP" when you are looking at them from a distance.

Here are videos showing you the progress of each piece............

I added a few finishing touches to the Chameleon...

I kept looking at this painting and wanting to make minor changes. The bottom left corner was continuing to be a source of frustration so I finally added a blue/green glaze to further "soften" and "downplay" any "busyness" (if that's a word) LOL!  I am happy to report that this Chameleon now has a new fabulous home!  His name still remains:  "CHANGE IS THE ESSENCE OF LIFE"

Here is a short video showing you how this painting evolved, it's pretty neat!

Chameleon Painting is COMPLETE!!!

FINALLY finished this painting today.  I was observing it while riding on my spin bike last week because it is located in my studio and the bottom left corner looked way too busy and unpleasing to the eye so I added some large leaves to that area and I am VERY pleased with the end result!

I plan on doing more chameleons in different compositions and colors.....FIN, FUN!!!!!

After all CHANGE is the ESSENCE of my life!!!!!  Infinite Love & Gratitude!!!

Mr. Chameleon is comming along

I'm having so much fun playing with paint and lines and stencils with this chameleon!  He is just about done......I want to add more lines and contrast and perhaps color to the bottom of the painting.  I am enjoying the energy!  I plan on painting a series of chameleons in different colors!  Fun, fun!!!!!

Creative juices flowing

Needless to say, all of this painting combined with the energy work I have been doing on myself has me really inspired!  I painted these old canvases red and purple..........

I decided to paint a lotus flower on the purple canvas and a Chameleon on the red canvas............

Here is the completed lotus flower.........

A friend on facebook loved it so much she bought it before i was even finished with the finishing touches!!!!!

Here is what the chameleon progress has been so far..........

He is ALMOST done.......not quite there yet.

Joseph Seascape

I was inspired to create a 2nd painting done in pastel of him a little older.  Here is closer to the age he was when he died.  I thought the sea was appropriate because he was stationed in Hawaii and also because his mom loves the ocean.

Here is a video of my process........

Joseph Airforce Portrait

My dear friend had her 70th birthday last month and I was inspired to paint her deceased son Joseph as a surprise present for her.  Joseph has been dead for over 20 years and he had lost all of his airforce photos before his passing.

I really enjoyed connecting with him on a spiritual level as I created this work from a grainy newspaper clipping and some old photos......

Here is the newspaper clipping I was working from........

Here is the 2nd reference photo I used........

I combined both images for a rendering that would make a good painting....using Artistic License.

Here is a video of the process...............

Casey

My first portrait commission for 2012 is of my friend's baby Casey.  Here is the progression so far from latest rendering to the first layer of paint on the canvas........
